The Indian Embassy in Madrid has confirmed that two Indian nationals aboard a cruise ship affected by a hantavirus outbreak are safe and asymptomatic.
The Dutch-flagged cruise vessel MV Hondius, carrying around 150 passengers and crew members, including two Indians, arrived near Spain’s Canary Islands on Thursday following reports of the outbreak onboard.
According to the Indian Embassy, passengers disembarked in accordance with health protocols issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Spanish authorities.
The Spanish National Centre for Emergency Monitoring and Coordination stated that the two Indian nationals, who were serving as crew members on the vessel, have been evacuated to the Netherlands for quarantine and further monitoring under established health safety procedures.
The embassy said the Indian Ambassador is in close contact with Spanish authorities as well as the affected Indian nationals and is closely monitoring the situation to ensure their safety and well-being.
Authorities have not reported any symptoms in the two Indian crew members so far.
