Tehran Calls US Navy “Blatant” Breach of Truce, Files UN Petition

Iran has formally complained to the United Nations Security Council, accusing the United States of a clear breach of the ceasefire after a dangerous naval clash near the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Friday an F/A-18 Super Hornet from the USS George HW Bush used precision munitions to disable two Iranian-flagged tankers, the M/T Sea Star III and M/T Sevda. The U.S. said the moves were needed to enforce a blockade of the port against vessels that had ignored it. Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir-Saeid Iravani, condemned the attack as an act of “American terrorism” that could derail fragile peace negotiations.

Tehran warned in a formal letter to the UN Secretary-General that such “reckless military adventures” could have catastrophic consequences for international maritime security. The incident comes at a critical juncture with President Donald Trump saying he is awaiting a “supposed” response from Iran to a Pakistani-mediated proposal to end the conflict that kicked off in February 2026. The U.S. has described the strikes as targeted “self-defense” measures against earlier drone threats. Iran says the blockade itself is a violation of the month-old truce. Now almost 1,500 ships are stranded in the Gulf and the world awaits to see if the UN will intervene before the region breaks out in full-scale war again.
