Husbands involved in child marriage, parents, and religious priests (Qazi/Purohit) who solemnize illegal marriages have been detained and legal action has been taken against them. Cases have been registered under the POCSO Act against those who marry girls below 14 years of age and under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 in cases of marriage of girls aged 14 to 18 years. The Assam Government has set a firm target to make the entire state completely child marriage-free by 2026. Along with maintaining law and order, the people of the state have been urged to raise their voice against the evil practice like child marriage and to provide information in this regard to the nearest police station.
