Hyundai Reaffirms India as a Global Hub for Future Mobility

Marking a landmark three decades of operations in the country, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) on Wednesday reaffirmed its long-term commitment to the Indian market. Since its establishment on May 6, 1996, the South Korean automotive giant has transformed from a newcomer into a cornerstone of India’s industrial landscape, now eyeing a massive expansion into electrification and future mobility.

To commemorate the 30-year milestone, Hyundai announced a staggering investment of ₹45,000 crore scheduled between FY26 and FY30. This capital infusion is earmarked for boosting manufacturing capabilities, advancing electrification technology, and launching 26 new products by the year 2030. This comes on top of the ₹40,700 crore already invested by the company since its inception, bringing its total commitment to the Indian economy to unprecedented levels.

Hyundai’s track record in India is defined by significant scale. The company has sold a total of 13.5 million units to date, with 9.6 million vehicles serving the domestic market and 3.9 million units exported to over 150 countries. These figures solidify HMIL’s position as India’s largest cumulative exporter of passenger vehicles, reinforcing the nation’s role as a vital global hub for the Hyundai Motor Group.

Tarun Garg, Managing Director and CEO of HMIL, credited the company’s success to the trust earned from Indian consumers and the dedication of its workforce. He emphasized that the company’s “Progress for Humanity” vision remains the guiding light as they transition toward sustainable and innovative mobility solutions. With two major manufacturing plants in Chennai and Pune, Hyundai is on track to scale its annual production capacity to 1.07 million units by 2028.

As it enters its fourth decade, Hyundai is not just focusing on manufacturing but also on its extensive service ecosystem. The company currently operates 1,675 service touchpoints across more than 1,000 cities, supported by a workforce of 50,000 trained professionals. This robust network ensures that as Hyundai shifts toward high-tech and electric offerings, it maintains the reliability that has defined its 30-year journey in India.
