Block-Level Inclusive Sports Meet Empowers Children with Special Needs in Little Andaman

In a landmark initiative promoting inclusive education and physical development, the Block Project Office (Samagra Shiksha), Little Andaman, successfully organized the first-ever Block-Level Inclusive Sports Meet for Children with Special Needs (CwSN) for the academic year 2025–26. The event was held on November 3 and 4 at the PM SHRI Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS) playground in Little Andaman.

The two-day meet was conducted under the banner of Samagra Shiksha, in collaboration with the Rehabilitation Council of India and the Fit India Movement. The program aimed to foster inclusivity, boost self-confidence, and provide a platform for children with special needs to showcase their athletic talents. The theme of the event—“Know me for my abilities, not my disability”—resonated throughout the activities, emphasizing empowerment and recognition of individual strengths.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Tarun Karthick, who commended the organizers for their commitment to inclusive education and holistic development. The meet featured a range of sporting competitions tailored to the abilities of participating children, including track events, ball games, and team-building exercises. Teachers, special educators, and volunteers played a crucial role in facilitating the events and ensuring a supportive environment for all participants.

Parents and community members attended in large numbers, cheering on the children and celebrating their achievements. The meet also included awareness sessions on inclusive practices, disability rights, and the importance of physical activity in child development.

The success of the sports meet marks a significant step toward building a more inclusive educational ecosystem in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It reflects the growing commitment of local authorities and educators to create equal opportunities for children with diverse needs.
