Union Home Minister Amit Shah will arrive in Shillong on October 4 on a two-day visit.
Shah will present President of India’s Police Colour to Meghalaya Police during a presentation ceremony on October 5.
“The home minister is coming here for the prestigious ceremony of the Presidential Colours and this is a matter of pride for the Meghalaya Police; it is a matter of achievement. We are one of the few northeastern states who have achieved this,” East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said.
“This is because of the sacrifice, the integrity, the dedication in our service and we will endeavour to give the best in whatever we do to the public and ensure that policing reaches its zenith in professionalism, in delivery and in integrity,” he added.
Meghalaya Police has stepped up security in the state capital for Shah’s visit, with the deployment of a security contingent of 15 companies.
During the visit, he is also expected to meet the eight MLAs who crossed over to the BJP from the United Democratic Party recently.
