Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today laid the foundation for the Rs 65 crore State Veterinary Hospital at Upper Shillong.
This modern facility will strengthen veterinary care with advanced diagnostics, imaging, surgery, orthopaedics, inpatient care, laboratories and pharmacy services in the state.
Addressing the gathering, Sangma said it will be more than just a hospital as the state government aims to build a stronger veterinary ecosystem through a hub-and-spoke model, strengthening district centres, infrastructure, equipment, medicines and manpower.
“Our goal is to improve animal health, support farmers, promote entrepreneurship and bridge the demand-supply gap,” he said.
The Chief Minister urged the Veterinary department to take greater ownership and initiative in solving problems.
“The Government can provide the roadmap and infrastructure, but real change will come when the entire system works together. We want this hospital to become a leading veterinary hospital and research centre for Meghalaya and the Northeast,” he said.
