The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Shillong Mihngi Circle, has questioned the legality of a place of worship being constructed inside the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office premises at Mawdiangdiang and sought clarification on the necessary approvals and compliance with the land agreement.
In a representation submitted to Urban Affairs Director P.K. Boro on Tuesday, KSU assistant general secretary Celestine Rynghang sought to know whether the construction was permitted under the terms of the land agreement, which, according to information available to the union, allows only residential and office complexes.
Rynghang also sought clarification on whether the concerned Dorbar Shnong had granted approval for the construction and what action the department would take if any violation was established.
Recalling a meeting with Boro on August 11, Rynghang said the director had assured the union that the matter would be taken seriously and the site inspected. However, the union said it had not yet received a detailed account of the action taken.
The KSU Shillong Mihngi Circle also expressed concern over the summoning of its leaders by the police while questions surrounding the construction remain unresolved.
The union urged the authorities to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter and take appropriate action if any violation is found. It warned that it could consider stronger but lawful measures if its concerns continue to remain unaddressed.
