Tirap dc visits india-myanmar border villages; reviews vvp projects, road connectivity

In his maiden field visit after assuming office, Deputy Commissioner of Tirap, Badonlum Tawsik on Thursday travelled to the remote Indo-Myanmar border villages under Lazu Administrative Circle to review developmental works under the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP) and assess the condition of critical road infrastructure connecting the border region.
The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by PWD officials, Panchayati Raj leaders, village headmen and other officials.
The DC inspected the vulnerable Pongkong block point on the Khonsa–Lazu Road and reviewed the progress of the proposed diversion road from Sanliam village.
PWD officials briefed the Deputy Commissioner on the proposed road alignment, survey findings and the ongoing jungle clearance required for the diversion.
He also inspected the landslide-prone Pongkong stretch, where recurring road blockages frequently disrupt connectivity to the interior border villages.
Concerned over the hardships faced by commuters, the Deputy Commissioner directed BRO authorities to keep adequate manpower and machinery on standby to ensure the immediate restoration of traffic whenever landslides occur.
He stressed that uninterrupted road connectivity is essential for the movement of people, transportation of essential commodities, emergency response services and the effective delivery of government programmes in the border areas.
Reviewing the implementation of the Vibrant Villages Programme, the Deputy Commissioner urged village authorities and residents of Noglo to actively cooperate with implementing agencies so that developmental projects could be completed in a time-bound manner.
He said the programme has the potential to transform the border villages through improved infrastructure, enhanced livelihood opportunities and better public services.
Responding to public grievances regarding Aadhaar enrolment, the Deputy Commissioner directed the EAC, Lazu, to organise a special Aadhaar biometric enrolment and updation camp for the border villages of Noglo, Upper Chinhan, Lower Chinhan and Lonyen. The initiative is expected to benefit students and residents by facilitating access to educational admissions, government welfare schemes and other essential public services.
During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner also interacted with village elders, community leaders and residents, assuring them of the district administration’s continued commitment to strengthening infrastructure and improving public service delivery in the remote border areas.
