Citing last year’s incident in which 11 people died, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has decided not to hold a victory parade to celebrate its Indian Premier League (IPL) title for the second consecutive time.
On Sunday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets here to clinch the IPL title for the second time in a row. RCB took this decision keeping in mind the swearing-in of Karnataka’s newly appointed Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, scheduled to be held at Lok Bhavan. Last year on June 4, 11 fans died near Chinnaswamy Stadium during a victory parade.
An RCB source said the chances of any kind of celebration in Bengaluru are very slim. “There are certain specific instructions and we have to comply with them.”
Meanwhile, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said, “We will not allow any kind of public celebration. If anyone wants to celebrate, they can do so indoors.”
