Literary Spirit Soars: State Library Wraps Up Three-Day Book Festival

The three-day celebration of World Book and Copyright Day 2026 concluded on a high note in Sri Vijaya Puram this past Saturday, leaving a lasting impression on the local community of readers and students. Hosted by the State Library at Middle Point, the event served as a vibrant platform to promote reading habits and deepen public understanding of the importance of intellectual property rights.

The celebrations, which ran from April 23 to April 25, transformed the library premises into a hub of literary engagement. A central attraction of the event was an extensive book exhibition that showcased approximately 702 titles. The collection spanned a diverse array of categories, including novels, children’s literature, personality development guides, competitive examination resources, biographies, and specialized works on the history of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Visitors—ranging from avid readers to curious students—flocked to the exhibition throughout the three days, reflecting a strong community interest in literature and lifelong learning.

In addition to the exhibition, the State Library organized a series of competitions that drew enthusiastic participation from the local student population. These activities were designed not only to challenge young minds but also to foster a deeper appreciation for books and copyright awareness. The culmination of these efforts took place during the valedictory function, where winners of the various competitions were felicitated with certificates and trophies, celebrating both their talent and their dedication to the written word.

Addressing the audience during the closing ceremony, the Chief Guest and Principal/Nodal Officer of the State Library, Ms. Archana Singh, commended the participants for their active involvement. She reiterated the institution’s steadfast commitment to fostering literacy and creating accessible learning environments. According to an official press release, the event successfully underscored the library’s role as a vital community resource hub, dedicated to disseminating knowledge and strengthening the cultural and educational fabric of Sri Vijaya Puram. As the curtains close on this year’s observance, the organizers hope that the enthusiasm sparked over these three days will continue to encourage a robust reading culture across the region.
