Justice Delivered: 20 Convicted in Abhi-Nil Mob Lynching Case

The court has held 20 out of the 45 indicted shamefaced in the sensational Abhi- Nil mob lynching case. Pronouncing the verdict moment, the Nagaon Sessions Court acquitted the remaining 25 chargesheeted indicted owing to lack of substantiation against them. Two youths, Nilotpal Das and Abhijit Nath of Guwahati, were returning after visiting the Kangthilangso cascade in Karbi Anglong quarter when they were severely killed by a mob on dubitation of being child- lifters on June 8, 2018. The chargesheet in the case was filed in 2024 and the trial, which began at Diphu, was latterly transferred to the Nagaon Sessions Court as per an order of the Gauhati High Court. The court will gasp the amount of discipline on April 24. The execution was represented by Special Public Prosecutor Ziaul Kamar and elderly advocate Bijon Mahajan appeared on behalf of the victims’ families, while the defence for the indicted was led by counsel Manas Sarania.
