David Beckham Becomes Britain’s First Billionaire Sportsman, Fortune Now at £1.185 Billion

David Beckham, who retired from professional football a decade ago, has reached a new financial milestone. According to the latest Sunday Times Rich List survey, Beckham is now Britain’s first billionaire sportsman, with his wealth continuing to grow even after stepping away from the pitch.

The former England captain has not distanced himself from the game since hanging up his boots. Instead, his role in football has expanded. Beckham starred for Manchester United in the Premier League and Real Madrid in La Liga during his playing days, and is now co-owner of Major League Soccer side Inter Miami. That involvement, along with several high-profile commercial deals, has driven his earnings upward.

The combined net worth of David Beckham and his wife, Victoria Beckham, is now estimated at £1.185 billion. While Beckham draws significant income from Inter Miami and serves as a brand ambassador for companies including Adidas and Hugo Boss, Victoria’s wealth comes largely from her eponymous fashion label, which has become a major luxury brand.

In the Sunday Times list of Britain’s richest sports organizers, Beckham ranks second. The top spot is held by the family of former Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone, with a fortune of £2 billion. Meanwhile, Manchester United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe has seen his wealth decline over the past 12 months to £1.51 billion, placing him seventh on the overall rich list.

Until now, Cristiano Ronaldo was the only footballer recognized as a billionaire. With this latest valuation, David Beckham joins him as the second player to enter that exclusive bracket, cementing his status as one of the most commercially successful athletes Britain has produced.

Beckham’s journey from the field to the boardroom shows how post-retirement ventures can rival, and even surpass, earnings from a playing career.
