Attempt to Stop Delhi Chalo: Railways Suspends Key Mail and Express Services

The government is alarmed over the proposed protest by the CJP at Jantar Mantar on October 10. Thousands of security personnel have already been deployed in the capital. Even after that, the government has taken an unprecedented measure to ensure that protesters from different parts of the country cannot reach the protest site. Indian Railways has decided to cancel the operation of several important Mail and Express trains heading towards Delhi on the day of the protest.

According to the Railway Board’s directive, several Mail and Express trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations between 4 AM and 2 PM on October 10 have been completely cancelled. Administratively, it has been claimed that this decision was taken on the pretext of possible severe traffic jams on roads near these two important stations and inconvenience to general passengers.

The authorities’ directive clearly states that all trains that were scheduled to depart from their originating stations after 2 PM on October 9, Friday, and were supposed to reach Delhi within the scheduled time on Saturday, will be cancelled at their originating stations itself.

It is noteworthy that the Cockroach Janata Party, abbreviated as CJP, has announced a massive protest program in Delhi on October 10. There is speculation that the strategy of stopping rail services to obstruct the agitation has been adopted so that thousands of protesters from various states cannot gather and bring the capital to a standstill. The sudden cancellation of multiple trains has raised fears of severe hardship for ordinary passengers who were supposed to travel to Delhi from different parts of the country.
