Shillong witnessed an early-morning run for heart health on Tuesday, with 184 runners taking part in a five-kilometre marathon to mark World Heart Day.
The marathon was organised by the Meghalaya Medical Services Association in collaboration with Health City Hospital, Guwahati, under the theme “Run for a Healthy Heart. Run for a Healthier Life.”
The run began at 5 AM from the Health Complex, after being flagged off by Dr Joram Beda, Commissioner and Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department.
The runners made their way through Don Bosco Square, Dhankheti, Civil Hospital Junction, State Central Library and Main Secretariat, before completing the race at Police Bazar.
Kmenlang Dkhar emerged winner in the men’s category, while Barihun Kharjahrim topped the women’s category.
Has Ningyar and Pyndoman Nongrum finished second and third among the men, while Dajes Syiemsad and Nathalene Lyngdoh took the second and third positions in the women’s category.
The event highlighted the importance of regular exercise and preventive healthcare in maintaining a healthy heart.
