World Tourism Day 2025 Celebrated Across Andaman & Nicobar Islands with Enthusiasm and Unique Initiatives

Port Blair, September 27 — The Andaman & Nicobar Islands celebrated World Tourism Day 2025 with a vibrant array of activities and community-driven initiatives, reflecting the global theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.” Spearheaded by the Department of Tourism, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, the celebrations aimed to promote eco-conscious travel and showcase the region’s rich cultural and natural heritage.

The week-long festivities began with an underwater photography contest held from September 20 to 25, highlighting the islands’ marine biodiversity. This was followed by a volleyball tournament at Wimberlygunj Mini Stadium on September 25 and 26, encouraging local participation and sportsmanship.

On September 27, tourists arriving at Veer Savarkar Airport, Cellular Jail, and jetties at Swaraj Dweep and Shaheed Dweep were greeted with traditional floral welcomes and cultural performances. Museums across the islands, including the Chatham Saw Mill, Samudrika Naval Marine Museum, Anthropological Museum, Fisheries Museum, and Cellular Jail, offered free entry to visitors, promoting educational tourism.

A thematic seminar was held at Megapode Nest, Haddo, where stakeholders discussed sustainable tourism practices and launched new departmental initiatives. The day concluded with a grand cultural programme and “Cuisine of India” festival at ITF Ground, featuring regional dishes, folk performances, and prize distributions for contest winners.

Lieutenant Governor Admiral D K Joshi (Retd) extended his greetings to the people of the islands and visiting tourists, emphasizing the importance of tourism in fostering environmental stewardship and inclusive development.

The celebrations underscored the islands’ commitment to sustainable tourism and positioned the Andaman & Nicobar Islands as a model destination for responsible travel.
