Water supply is disrupted by landslides in some areas of Sri Vijaya Puram

Two significant gravity pipelines that came from the Dhanikhari Dam were dislocated as a result of a landslide that was caused by continuous rainfall on May 24 and 25 in the Sippighat area. The impacted pipelines, a 500mm diameter Cast Iron (C.I.) pipeline that supplied raw water to the Old Plant at Lamba Line and a 500mm diameter Ductile Iron (D.I.) line that supplied raw water to the Garacharma Water Treatment Plant, were later closed for maintenance and repair. It was anticipated that the repairs, which started right away, would be finished by the evening of May 26. However, the interruption caused problems with the city’s water supply in a number of areas.

Areas served by the Lamba Line and Garacharma Water Treatment Plants, such as Police Line, All India Radio, and Rachi Basti Command Tank, had a disruption in water supply on May 26. On May 27, partial supply outages are anticipated to persist in these regions. Officials from the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipality have been notified to take the appropriate action in order to lessen the public’s discomfort. In the meantime, the Jawahar Sarovar Treatment Plant will send out water tankers to assist the impacted communities. Until the regular supply is restored, residents have been advised to practice water conservation and make prudent use of the existing supply.
