Watch out for growing job offer scams

In order to exploit victims through online financial fraud, scammers are luring people in with promises of well-paying employment that require little time or effort using SMS, messages on instant messaging apps, and online adverts. Criminals usually pose as recruiters or employers in these frauds, offering alluring part-time employment prospects. The hitch, though, is that job searchers are requested to pay a price up front for materials or registration, only to have their money and private information stolen.

The following warning was previously released by the Andaman and Nicobar Police to help citizens guard against these types of scams:

  1. Be Cautious of Tempting Offers: You should be wary of job offers that you receive through email or text message from unidentified sources, especially if they promise big rewards with little work.
  2. Verify Online: Look up the business or job offer online before accepting any offer. To look for reports of similar fraudulent schemes, use keywords such as “scam,” “fraud,” or “complaint” in conjunction with the name of the company.
  3. Avoid Upfront Payments: Never pay for registration or anything else without first confirming the employer’s legitimacy.
  4. Examine SMS Headers: To determine if a job offer is genuine, pay attention to the information in SMS headers.
  5. Beware of Urgent Requests: Scammers frequently instill a fictitious sense of urgency. If you receive a request that seems abnormally urgent, proceed cautiously and make sure it is legitimate.
