Sri Vijaya Puram, July 16, 2025 — In a strategic move to bolster agricultural productivity and farmer awareness, the Union Territory Agriculture Technology Management Agency (UTATMA), in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, has launched an extensive Kharif Campaign across the islands. The initiative aims to promote scientific crop management, enhance farm profitability, and disseminate information on key government schemes.
The campaign was simultaneously conducted across three blocks—Mayabunder, Car Nicobar, and Nancowrie—engaging local communities through demonstrations, training sessions, and awareness programs. At Mayabunder, the event was inaugurated by Shri Dhanveer, PRI member, at Pudumadurai Community Hall. In Car Nicobar, the campaign was held at Kakana village’s Community Hall, graced by Shri Emmanuel (2nd Headman) and Shri Edward (Village Secretary). Meanwhile, Sanuh Village in Nancowrie hosted the event in the presence of Shri Taufique Ahmed, 3rd Captain.
Farmers were briefed on a wide array of agricultural schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), Kisan Credit Card (KCC), and Soil Health Card initiatives. Emphasis was placed on organic inputs such as Neemastra and Jeevamrith, alongside allied activities like beekeeping for income diversification. Schemes under HVADA, Minor Irrigation, and other sectors were also highlighted.
Complementing the campaign, a field demonstration on “Vermicomposting in Vermibed” was conducted at Subhash Gram, Diglipur, in the presence of Smti Sumati Roy, Ward Member. Additionally, a training session on “Freshwater Fish Pond Management” was organized at Nabagram Community Hall in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, attended by Shri Nirodh Mondal, Sarpanch of Nabagram Village.
The campaign reflects UTATMA’s commitment to integrating modern agricultural practices with traditional knowledge, ensuring that farmers across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are equipped for a resilient and productive Kharif season.
