Two-Day Fodder Cultivation Training Held in Little Andaman to Boost Livestock Productivity

A two-day training program on fodder cultivation was successfully conducted at the Panchayat Community Hall in Vivekananda Pur, Little Andaman, aimed at enhancing livestock productivity through sustainable farming practices. Organized by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), the initiative drew active participation from local farmers and community leaders.

Shri Parimal Mondal, Pradhan of Vivekananda Pur, inaugurated the program as Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized the importance of adopting controlled intercropping methods for fodder production, especially in areas dominated by arecanut plantations. He also urged the AH&VS Department to facilitate easier access to poultry and duck inputs for farmers, citing logistical challenges in sourcing them from Nanjappa Nagar.

The training included technical sessions on scientific approaches to fodder cultivation, covering soil preparation, seed selection, and intercropping strategies. Participants received hands-on demonstrations, reading materials, plastic buckets, and Super Napier fodder cuttings to support practical implementation.

Senior Veterinary Officer of Hut Bay delivered the welcome address, highlighting the role of quality fodder in improving livestock health and farm productivity. The program continued through August 13, 2025, reinforcing key practices and promoting sustainable animal husbandry across the region.

This initiative reflects the AH&VS Department’s commitment to empowering farmers with essential resources and knowledge, aligning with broader efforts to strengthen agricultural and livestock systems in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
