Port Blair, July 28, 2025 — Members of the Tribal Village Owners’ Association (TVOA) recently underwent a comprehensive fire safety training program conducted by the Andaman & Nicobar Fire and Emergency Services. The initiative aimed to enhance fire awareness and preparedness among the tribal communities residing in the region.
The practical training session, held at the Fire Service Training Centre in Port Blair, covered crucial topics such as identification of fire hazards, basic fire prevention strategies, safe evacuation procedures, and use of firefighting equipment. Participants received hands-on demonstrations on handling fire extinguishers, operating fire hoses, and conducting emergency drills effectively.
Officials from the A&N Fire and Emergency Services emphasized the importance of community involvement in fire safety, particularly in remote tribal villages, where prompt response can significantly reduce the risks of property damage and loss of life. The training also included instructions on maintaining clear access routes and preserving firefighting equipment in village premises.
Speaking on the occasion, the Fire Chief highlighted the growing need for fire safety education in rural and tribal areas and expressed confidence that empowered TVOA members would serve as vital resources in spreading knowledge and responding efficiently to fire emergencies within their communities.
TVOA leaders expressed gratitude for the opportunity and pledged to actively disseminate the skills and information gained to ensure the safety and well-being of their villagers. The collaboration between the tribal association and emergency services marks a proactive step toward strengthening disaster resilience in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The A&N Fire and Emergency Services plans to conduct similar training programs periodically to bolster community awareness and make fire safety a shared responsibility across the islands.
