The 76th Van Mahotsav was commemorated in Diglipur with a large-scale tree plantation drive organized by the Diglipur Forest Division at the Fish Landing Centre, Durgapur. The initiative aimed to promote environmental awareness and reinforce the importance of afforestation in the ecologically sensitive Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Shri Kamleshwar Rao S., IAS, Assistant Commissioner of Diglipur, graced the occasion as the chief guest. The event witnessed active participation from local panchayat leaders, members of the fishermen community, and officials from the Department of Environment and Forests.
In his address, the Assistant Commissioner lauded the department’s consistent efforts in preserving the region’s green cover and emphasized the significance of community involvement in environmental conservation. Dr. S.H.K. Murti, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Diglipur, highlighted the unique biodiversity of the islands and urged citizens to contribute actively to safeguarding their natural heritage.
The Assistant Conservator of Forests read out a message from the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, underscoring the administration’s commitment to sustainable development and ecological preservation.
The plantation drive forms part of a broader nationwide campaign under Van Mahotsav, a week-long festival dedicated to tree planting and environmental stewardship. The event in Diglipur not only reinforced the importance of green initiatives but also served as a platform for fostering civic responsibility toward nature conservation.
