Port Blair, July 25 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory for the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, warning of thunderstorms, gusty winds, and rough sea conditions through July 27. The Directorate of Disaster Management has urged fishermen and small vessel operators to avoid venturing into the Andaman Sea during this period due to safety concerns.
According to the IMD bulletin, isolated areas across the islands are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and wind speeds ranging from 30 to 50 km/h. On July 25, gusts may reach up to 50 km/h, while on July 26 and 27, wind speeds are expected to hover between 30 and 40 km/h.
The sea condition is forecast to be rough, with squally weather and surface winds potentially gusting up to 60 km/h. Authorities have emphasized that these conditions pose significant risks to marine operations, particularly for fishing and small transport vessels.
Residents and tourists in coastal areas are advised to remain cautious, monitor official updates, and follow safety instructions issued by local authorities. The IMD continues to track the evolving weather system and will provide timely updates as necessary.
