The US has experienced a 25-year high measles outbreak, with over 1,200 cases reported

Measles is resurgence in the US, with over 1,270 confirmed cases this year, the highest in 25 years. Experts suspect higher numbers due to unreported cases. Three deaths have occurred, all unvaccinated.

Measles is spreading again across the US

Measles, once eradicated in 2000 due to MMR vaccine use, is resurgence due to declining vaccination rates, according to Dr. Bruce A. Scott of the American Medical Association.

West Texas is at the centre of the outbreak

A massive MMR vaccine outbreak began in West Texas, with over 750 cases reported, primarily in Gaines County, with the outbreak spreading to New Mexico, Oklahoma, and possibly Kansas.

Measles now reported in 38 states

US states have reported 38 measles cases this year, with 27 outbreaks, and air travel has contributed to the spread of the virus.

Most victims are young and unvaccinated

The CDC reports 30% of measles cases are in children under 5, with 1 in 8 hospitalized. Most infected individuals are not vaccinated, despite the highly effective MMR vaccine.
