The labour ministry starts a special platform and gig workers registration drive

The Government of India’s Ministry of Labour & Employment has announced a statewide initiative to hold Special Registration Camps for platform and gig workers nationwide from April 7–17, 2025. This strategy aims to bring non-traditional workers inside the purview of official social programs. People who use internet platforms to provide services or address certain issues without a conventional employer-employee relationship are known as platform workers.

Similarly, gig workers make money through freelance labor or short-term engagements outside of traditional employment arrangements. The campaign backs the Union Budget 2025–2026 statements that include extending health benefits under the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), issuing identity cards, and registering such workers on the e-Shram portal. On any working day, employees who need help registering online can come to the Labour Department office at Sri Vijaya Puram.
