The Island Tourism Festival in 2024 honored the region’s traditions of of Unity, Culture, and Festivity

As the Island Tourism Festival (ITF), 2024, broke out in style at Indira Park in Kamorta, the charming Nancowry subdivision was a hive of activity and excitement. Attracting a passionate audience from all around the islands, the event honored the area’s breathtaking natural surroundings, rich cultural legacy, and varied customs. Mr. Pravesh Ranjan Jha, Director (Shipping), A&N Administration, served as the festival’s chief guest and Assistant Commissioner, Nancowry, Mr. Aditya Sangotra, was honored as the guest of honor. The event was a culturally vibrant celebration featuring traditional performances from tribal communities of the Nancowry group of islands, including fire dances, stick fights, and bamboo dances.

School students from GMSSS Goal Tikery, GMSSS Kamorta, and GMSSS Champin captivated the audience with colorful costumes and folk songs. After a ceremonial lamp burning, Mr. Mohammed Yunus M. gave a welcome speech to kick off the event. The Assistant Commissioner appealed for the support of tribal leaders and described the administration’s developmental goals. The Chief Guest commended the organizers and attendees, emphasizing their traditional games and sense of cultural pride. A lasting record of the lively culture and customs of the Nancowry Islands was left behind by the successful Island Tourism Festival 2024, which promoted community pride and unity.
