TGCE Conducts Awareness Programme for Drug-Free Society Under NMBA Initiative

Tagore Government College of Education (TGCE), Puducherry, hosted a comprehensive awareness programme aimed at promoting a drug-free society under the banner of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA). The initiative, backed by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, is part of a nationwide campaign to combat substance abuse through education, community engagement, and behavioral change.

The event drew participation from students, faculty, and local stakeholders, with a focus on sensitizing youth to the dangers of drug use and the importance of collective responsibility in building a healthier society. The programme featured expert talks, interactive sessions, and a mass pledge ceremony, where attendees committed to living drug-free lives and encouraging others to do the same.

Speakers emphasized the psychological, social, and economic consequences of substance abuse, particularly among adolescents and young adults. They also highlighted the role of educational institutions in fostering resilience, awareness, and peer support systems to prevent addiction.

As part of the NMBA framework, TGCE’s initiative aligns with the national goal of reducing drug demand through grassroots outreach. The campaign has already reached over 16 crore individuals across India, including more than 5 crore youth and 4.7 lakh educational institutions.

The programme concluded with distribution of pledge certificates and a call to action for continued advocacy. TGCE reaffirmed its commitment to supporting NMBA’s mission and integrating substance abuse prevention into its academic and community engagement strategies.
