A large explosion has occurred just outside Pakistan’s Karachi airport. Three Chinese nationals died on the spot in the blast. Many people were injured. Among them are citizens of China and Pakistan. The Karachi police said the incident took place around 11 p.m. Pakistan time on Sunday. A power plant is being built near the Karachi airport with Chinese money. A convoy of cars of employees and engineers were returning to the hotel under police guard. An oil tanker parked on the roadside was detonated with the help of a remote control device.
Militant activities are not new in Pakistan. There have been several incidents of individual targeting of Chinese nationals before. Terrorist attacks have increased recently. 24 hours before the Karachi incident, 12 people were killed in an army-militancy clash in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Among them were six soldiers, including a lieutenant colonel. The Baloch Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the incident in Karachi. Before that, the organization attacked Chinese citizens in that country. Police said there was no damage to the Karachi airport in the blast. Air traffic is normal.
