Sri Vijaya Puram, July 28 — As part of the Government of India’s flagship TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, the District Administration of South Andaman, in collaboration with the Directorate of Health Services, RMRC-ICMR, and the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council, has launched a series of General and Lung Health Awareness-cum-Screening Camps across key locations in the district.
The initiative aims to enhance public awareness about Tuberculosis (TB) and general lung health, facilitate early detection of symptoms, and connect vulnerable populations to essential diagnostic and treatment services. The campaign also integrates Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) creation and Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) Card generation to ensure health coverage for eligible individuals.
The first camp was held at the Community Hall in Prothrapur, covering Ward Nos. 19 and 23, with 55 attendees. Services provided included chest X-rays using portable hand-held machines supplied by ICMR-RMRC, general health check-ups (blood pressure and blood sugar), and TB symptom screening conducted by doctors from the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP). ABHA IDs and PM-JAY e-Cards were issued to eligible participants to enable access to digital health records and free healthcare services.
Local councillors Mrs. Radhika (Ward No. 23) and Mr. R. Vetrivelu (Ward No. 19) participated in the camp and underwent chest X-ray screening, demonstrating strong community engagement and encouraging public participation under the Jan Bhagidari model.
The District Administration has urged residents to attend upcoming camps and utilize the health services offered. Schedules for subsequent camps are available at respective Health & Wellness Centres and Urban Local Bodies.
