Supreme Petrochem Ltd (SPL), one of India’s leading producers of polystyrene and expandable polystyrene, announced the temporary suspension of operations at its Manali manufacturing unit in Chennai following extensive flooding inside the plant premises.
According to an exchange filing dated December 5, continuous rainfall in Tamil Nadu and the release of water from nearby reservoirs into the canal adjacent to the facility led to water entering the company’s premises. The incident resulted in significant flooding, forcing management to halt all manufacturing activities until further notice.
The company clarified that the shutdown is precautionary, aimed at ensuring the safety of workers and equipment. “Operations will resume once conditions stabilize and the premises are safe for resumption of work,” Supreme Petrochem stated in its filing. The firm added that it is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as recovery efforts progress.
