Spice Pravah, a drive launched in Little Andaman, aims to promote black pepper cultivation

The Department of Agriculture in the Little Andaman zone, in collaboration with other Union Territory zones, launched an extensive plantation program under the ‘Spice Pravah’ initiative on July 31, 2025, with the objective of increasing the area designated for spice cultivation.

The event was officially inaugurated by Shri Parmanathan, Pramukh of the Panchayat Samiti in Little Andaman, at the Ramakrishnapur Gram Panchayat. This initiative is designed to foster sustainable spice cultivation in the area, with technical guidance provided by Shri Dinesh Chandra Das, Agriculture Assistant.

A total of 2,200 rooted black pepper cuttings were planted over an area of 1 hectare, and 200 saplings were distributed to other farmers to promote broader adoption of spice cultivation. This initiative exemplifies the department’s dedication to sustainable agriculture and economic growth through increased spice production in the island region.
