Sri Vijaya Puram, July 16, 2025 — The Department of Tourism, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, hosted the much-anticipated Spice Festival–2025 today, spotlighting the region’s rich agricultural legacy and cultural vibrancy. Designed to promote agro-tourism and sustainable practices, the festival drew a diverse crowd of domestic and international visitors eager to explore the island’s spice heritage.
Held across multiple locations including Rangachang, Sippighat, and Caddlegunj, the event featured curated plantation tours, live spice harvesting demonstrations, and culinary sessions showcasing traditional recipes infused with locally grown spices. Highlights included visits to the organic farm of Padma Shri Kamachi Chellammal (popularly known as “Nariyal Amma”), the Krishi Vigyan Kendra–CIARI, and Junglee Mirchi Resort’s spice gardens.
The Tourism Department arranged a dedicated half-day bus service departing from the Directorate of IP&T at 8:30 AM, ensuring smooth access for tourists, students, and stakeholders. Participants engaged in hands-on experiences such as spice processing and packaging techniques, while chefs and local artisans presented dishes that celebrated the medicinal and culinary value of spices like clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, and turmeric.
Officials emphasized the festival’s role in promoting sustainable tourism and supporting local farmers. “This initiative not only celebrates our cultural identity but also encourages responsible travel and economic upliftment through agro-tourism,” said a spokesperson from the Directorate of Tourism.
The Spice Festival–2025 marks a significant step in positioning the Andaman & Nicobar Islands as a hub for immersive, eco-conscious travel experiences. With growing interest in heritage-based tourism, the event is expected to become a recurring highlight in the region’s cultural calendar.
