An Indian Army soldier lost his life in a gunfight with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, officials said on Thursday.
The Indian Army’s White Knight Corps confirmed that a joint operation had been initiated with local security units. “Contact was established, and a fierce firefight ensued. One Braveheart sustained grievous injuries during the initial exchange and, despite best medical efforts, succumbed,” the Corps shared on X (formerly Twitter).
The encounter is ongoing in the dense forested terrain of Basantgarh, with security forces continuing their operations.
Meanwhile, in Poonch district, joint forces—including the Army’s Romeo Force and J&K Police’s Special Operations Group—have been conducting a counter-terror operation in Lasana for 10 consecutive days. The operation, launched on April 15 following an initial gunfight on April 14, has seen extensive searches across the dense forests where terrorists are believed to be hiding. One security personnel was injured during an exchange of fire near Lasana village, along the Poonch-Jammu National Highway.
These intensified operations follow the brutal terrorist attack in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists—the deadliest attack in the region since the 2019 Pulwama bombing that killed 40 CRPF personnel.
