The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in North & Middle Andaman (CIARI) has conducted a three-day training program focused on skill development in Indian Major Carp (IMC) breeding, scheduled from July 28 to 30, 2025. This initiative aimed to provide rural farmers and youth with scientific techniques for fish breeding, thereby enhancing sustainable livelihoods and income generation.
The program was inaugurated by Mr. Prakash Mondal, the Pradhan of Uttara Gram Panchayat, who motivated farmers and women to consider IMC breeding as a promising income source. Dr. V. Damodaran, the Senior Scientist and Head of KVK, emphasized the aquaculture sector’s potential in the North and Middle Andaman districts, stressing the importance of scientific practices and modern breeding methods.
The training encompassed various topics, including brood stock management, induced breeding techniques, egg collection, larval rearing, and addressing breeding challenges. This event was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, the Director of ICAR-CIARI, Sri Vijaya Puram.
