Savarkar statue to be unveiled in Port Blair on December 12

A grand patriotic programme titled “Sāgara Pran Talamalala” will be organised in Port Blair on December 12 to mark 116 years of Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s historic poem, composed during his imprisonment in the Andamans. The event is being organised by the Valuable Group and will take place at Sri Vijaya Puram at 3 PM.

A statue of Savarkar will be formally unveiled at Beodanabad in the presence of RSS Sarsanghchalak Dr. Mohan Bhagwat and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The statue has been conceptualised by Shri Ameya Hete of Valuable Group and created by noted sculptor Shri Ram Sutar.

Maharashtra Cultural Affairs and IT Minister Ashish Shelar will attend the ceremony along with several noted personalities including Padma Shri Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar, actor Randeep Hooda and historian Dr. Vikram Sampath. Patriotic songs composed by Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar will be performed during the programme. Local cultural enthusiasts in Port Blair say the programme will draw public interest since Savarkar’s years of incarceration at the Cellular Jail form an integral part of Andaman’s history. According to organisers, the event seeks to rekindle patriotic ideals among younger generations.
