Rural women are empowered to participate in panchayat development through training
The CMTC Building in Ferrargunj recently hosted a block-level training session with the theme “Strengthening of Institutions of the Poor – Empowering Rural Women to Participate in Panchayat Development.” The goal of the session was to empower and educate rural women, especially Community Resource Persons (CRPs) and Elected Women Representatives (EWRs), so they could actively participate in Panchayat development.
As the session began, Ferrargunj’s Block Development Officer (BDO), Mrs. Lalita Tigga, welcomed everyone and stressed the importance of women’s involvement in local government. A Department of Rural Development (RD) domain specialist, Ms. C. Vijaya, introduced the event and discussed the significance of women’s involvement in Panchayat issues. She emphasized the transformative power of women in leadership roles and stated that the program’s goal is to establish a more sustainable, inclusive, and participatory grassroots governance model with women at its core.
Ms. Shanti Murugesan, In-Charge of the One Stop Center (OSC) under the Directorate of Social Welfare, also spoke at the session. She went into detail about the crucial role OSC plays in supporting women who are victims of abuse and violence. At the end of the session, Mrs. Lalita Tigga gave a vote of thanks to all of the speakers and attendees who helped make this event so memorable. It is anticipated that this project will promote an inclusive atmosphere in local government, enabling rural women to take an active role in bringing about change in their communities.
