Rahul Gandhi’s Manipur visit closes with plea for PM modi’s direct action

Leader of the Opposition Party, Rahul Gandhi, concluded a poignant one-day visit to Manipur on July 8, where he called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to personally assess the grave challenges facing the state’s residents amidst an ongoing crisis.

During his third visit to the conflict-affected region, Rahul Gandhi expressed deep concern over the prolonged turmoil in Manipur and stressed the critical need for immediate attention and intervention. His itinerary included interactions with displaced individuals from various communities, aimed at gaining firsthand insight into their hardships.

Commencing his visit in Jiribam, recently tense after a period of relative calm, Rahul Gandhi engaged with representatives from both communities to grasp the underlying issues and their impact on local populations. He then journeyed through Silchar before proceeding to Imphal and finally reaching Churachandpur.

In Churachandpur, Rahul Gandhi met with displaced persons taking refuge in Bishnupur district, holding discussions on their challenges and urgent needs. Later in the day, he convened a crucial meeting with Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey, security advisor Kuldeip Singh, Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi, and senior Congress leaders including Okram Ibobi Singh, Keisham Meghachandra Singh, and Gaikhangam.

Addressing the media, Rahul Gandhi directly appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a visit, underscoring the enduring suffering of Manipur’s people and their yearning to be acknowledged. “The Prime Minister’s presence would not only demonstrate solidarity but also instill confidence among the populace. It is crucial for him to witness firsthand the challenges faced by Manipur, an integral state of the Indian Union,” he emphasized.

Throughout his visit, Rahul Gandhi received a warm reception from Manipur’s residents, who expressed gratitude for his unwavering efforts to spotlight their plight on the national stage. Supporters and Congress members gathered at Congress Bhawan to hear his remarks, reflecting strong local endorsement for his advocacy.
