Pune Businessman Abducted and Murdered in Bihar: 7 Arrested in Connection with the Crime

Bihar Police have arrested seven individuals, including a woman, in connection with the abduction and murder of a Pune-based businessman, Laxman Sadhu Shinde. The victim was kidnapped shortly after landing at Patna airport on April 11, and his body was later discovered in Jehanabad district.
According to police officials, Shinde was lured to Patna through a fraudulent business inquiry via email, offering him a high-value order related to mining equipment for operations in Jharkhand. After arriving in Patna, he sent a message to his daughter around 8:30 PM, mentioning his travel plans to Jharkhand. However, he was never heard from again.
Following a missing person complaint filed by Shinde’s family on April 12, police launched an investigation, analysing CCTV footage and tracking the vehicle used in the kidnapping. The vehicle was recovered in Vaishali, leading to the arrest of its owner, Vipatra Kumar, who later revealed the identities of the other suspects.
Authorities suspect that the accused belong to an inter-state criminal network involved in extortion, kidnapping, and ransom demands. The gang has reportedly carried out similar crimes in Jharkhand, Gujarat, Karnataka, and other states. In Shinde’s case, they demanded a ransom of ₹90,000, but after receiving only a partial payment, they killed him and dumped his body in Ghosi area of Jehanabad.
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Awkash Kumar confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with efforts to trace additional suspects and dismantle the criminal network. Authorities are also probing whether some of the arrested individuals were involved in cyber fraud.
