Political Storm: TMC Leader Anubrata Mondal’s Viral Phone Call Sparks Controversy

A major political controversy erupted in West Bengal after an expletive-laden phone call allegedly involving Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Anubrata Mondal went viral on social media. In the purported audio clip, Mondal is heard abusing and threatening a police officer, leading to widespread condemnation and legal action.

The viral audio clip allegedly features Mondal verbally abusing Liton Haldar, the Inspector-in-Charge of Bolpur police station, along with his wife and mother. The conversation, which surfaced online, has sparked outrage, with opposition leaders demanding strict action against Mondal.

Following the leak, the Birbhum district police registered an FIR against Mondal, confirming that legal proceedings would be initiated against him. Superintendent of Police Amandeep stated that authorities would take strong legal action under the provisions of law.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) swiftly distanced itself from Mondal’s remarks, issuing a statement condemning his use of derogatory and unacceptable language. The party instructed Mondal to tender an unconditional apology within four hours, failing which show cause proceedings would be initiated against him.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack on the ruling party, accusing the Mamata Banerjee-led government of protecting anti-social elements. Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari criticized the administration, stating that the viral clip exposed the lawlessness prevailing in the state.

In response to the controversy, Mondal issued an apology, claiming that he had lost his temper after being informed that TMC workers were assaulted and the police had failed to take action. However, the audio clip does not mention any such incident, raising further questions about his justification.

Legal & Administrative Actions

The West Bengal police have reportedly cut down Mondal’s security by half, following instructions from senior officers. Additionally, Mondal, who was recently removed from his post as Birbhum district president, faces ongoing investigations by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding cattle smuggling and illegal land deals.

Conclusion

The controversy surrounding Mondal’s abusive phone call has intensified political tensions in West Bengal. While the TMC has condemned his remarks, the BJP continues to demand stricter action against him. With legal proceedings underway, the incident is expected to have far-reaching political and administrative consequences in the state.
