PMF Rangat Executes Heroic Rescue of Stranded Fishing Trawler Near Long Island

In a daring maritime rescue, the Police Marine Force (PMF) Rangat team successfully saved ten fishermen stranded at sea near Long Island in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The operation, carried out under rough sea conditions, has drawn widespread praise for its swift execution and life-saving impact.

According to Director General of Police (Andaman) HGS Dhaliwal, the incident occurred during a routine patrol by the PMF Rangat unit aboard the Fast Interceptor Boat (FIB) Suntook. The crew spotted a distressed dinghy drifting aimlessly, its engine having failed, with fishermen from Junglighat onboard desperately signaling for help.

Without hesitation, the PMF team sprang into action. They intercepted the vessel, secured the fishermen, and towed the dinghy to Rangat Bay for emergency repairs. Once the vessel was stabilized, the fishermen resumed their journey safely toward Sri Vijayapuram.

“This rescue underscores the vigilance and commitment of our marine force,” said DGP Dhaliwal. “Their selfless actions not only saved lives but reinforced the importance of maritime safety and the critical role played by PMF in protecting those at sea.”

The incident has reignited discussions around the need for robust coastal surveillance and emergency response infrastructure in the region, especially as unpredictable weather patterns continue to challenge seafarers.
