Patna, July 16, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Bihar on July 18, marking his 53rd trip to the state as Prime Minister and his second within a month, as part of a strategic push ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Despite heavy monsoon rains, the visit is expected to be a high-profile affair, with the launch of development projects worth ₹7,200 crore, aimed at energizing the BJP’s campaign in the poll-bound state.
The projects include the inauguration of three Amrit Bharat Express trains, extensive road infrastructure, and initiatives under the Electronics and Information Technology Department. Modi will address a public rally at Gandhi Maidan in Motihari, a historically significant venue where Mahatma Gandhi initiated the Indigo Movement in 1917. The BJP has chosen this location to evoke emotional resonance with voters and symbolically kick-start its election campaign.
Security arrangements for the rally are extensive, with over 10,000 police personnel, including 18 IPS officers, 60 DSPs, and 125 inspectors, deployed to ensure smooth proceedings. Senior officials, including Bihar Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena and DGP Vinay Kumar, have conducted site inspections.
In addition to infrastructure announcements, Modi is expected to transfer ₹162 crore to 40,000 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, reinforcing the government’s welfare agenda. The visit comes amid heightened political activity, with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recently pledging 1 crore jobs over the next five years and announcing 35% reservation in state government jobs for women born in Bihar.
The rally also coincides with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters’ list, which has drawn criticism from opposition parties alleging bias in the Election Commission’s conduct. Modi is anticipated to address these concerns directly, defending the integrity of the electoral process.
With the Assembly elections scheduled for November 2025, the Prime Minister’s visit is widely seen as a calculated move to consolidate support and showcase the BJP’s development credentials in Bihar. The event is expected to set the tone for the party’s campaign in the months ahead.
