San Francisco, August 4, 2025 — OpenAI is gearing up to launch a new subscription tier for ChatGPT, named ‘Go’, designed to offer users a more affordable entry point into generative AI tools. The rollout is expected to accompany the debut of GPT-5, the company’s much-anticipated next-generation model.
Leaked code snippets from the ChatGPT web app, shared by users on X (formerly Twitter), suggest that internal testing for the Go plan is already underway. While no official confirmation has been issued, developers and tech analysts speculate that the new plan could be priced lower than the current $20/month Plus tier.
OpenAI’s existing subscription structure includes:
- Plus Plan: $20/month for general users
- Pro Plan: $200/month tailored for developers and enterprise-level users
The Go tier may feature access to lighter model versions such as o3 and o4-mini-high, potentially excluding premium tools like Sora (for video generation) and autonomous agents. Industry watchers believe this move is part of OpenAI’s broader strategy to expand accessibility and maintain tiered functionality as its models grow in capability.
Additional features in development, such as a ‘Pin Chat’ option and a ‘Favourites’ section within the ChatGPT interface, indicate efforts to enhance usability and personalized workflows.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently hinted at GPT-5’s launch during a podcast appearance, describing its capabilities as “strikingly advanced” and “deeply contextual,” with improvements expected in multimodal processing and reasoning depth.
As anticipation builds, the Go tier could appeal to users seeking intelligent assistance without premium pricing—positioning OpenAI to better compete in a rapidly evolving AI market.
