Nicobar District Police conducts district-wide cleanliness drive

From January 16–22, 2025, Andaman & Nicobar Police will observe Police Raising Week. An organized police force was initially founded in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands in 1875, marking the beginning of the A&N Police’s existence. To combat crime and criminals, the Civil Police Force was established in 1924 as a distinct division supervised by a commandant. The first Indian Police Service (IPS) official, Mr. Naushirwan Feroz Sauntook, succeeded Mr. M. Macfarland as Superintendent of Police on January 16, 1953, following India’s independence. Every year, this day is commemorated as the Andaman & Nicobar Police’s Raising Day.
On January 16, 2025, the Nicobar District Police celebrated Police Raising Day, which kicked off Police Raising Week, with pride. Through a number of outreach and service-oriented events, the week-long celebration seeks to honor the police force’s rich past and reinforce relationships with the community. A cleanliness campaign was planned throughout Nicobar District to kick off the week’s activities. The campaign, which was in line with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, emphasized the responsibility of residents to keep the environment hygienic and safe. Public areas, marketplaces, beaches, and other open spaces were aggressively cleaned by police officers and staff from each of the district’s five police stations.
