Garacharma, Port Blair, September 27, 2025 — A comprehensive multi-speciality health camp was successfully conducted at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Garacharma as part of the ongoing Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan, a flagship initiative aimed at promoting women’s health and strengthening family well-being across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The camp was inaugurated by senior health officials and witnessed active participation from medical professionals across various disciplines including gynaecology, paediatrics, general medicine, dermatology, and ophthalmology. Over 300 beneficiaries availed free consultations, diagnostic services, and health screenings during the day-long event.
Special focus was given to maternal and reproductive health, anaemia detection, non-communicable disease management, and adolescent wellness. Awareness sessions were also held on menstrual hygiene, nutrition, and preventive care, with community health workers distributing educational materials and sanitary kits.
Speaking at the event, the Medical Officer in charge of PHC Garacharma emphasised the importance of early detection and regular health check-ups, especially for women in rural and semi-urban areas. “Empowering women through health is the foundation of a strong and resilient family. This camp is a step towards ensuring accessible and inclusive healthcare,” he stated.
The initiative is part of a broader campaign launched by the Directorate of Health Services, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, under the guidance of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan seeks to bridge healthcare gaps by organising targeted outreach programmes in underserved regions.
Local panchayat leaders and community volunteers played a key role in mobilising participation and facilitating logistics. Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the quality of services and the compassionate approach of the medical staff.
The health department has announced plans to replicate similar camps in other PHCs and CHCs across the islands in the coming weeks, reinforcing its commitment to holistic and gender-sensitive healthcare delivery.
