Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament representing the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has officially nominated seven individuals to serve on the District Development and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) for the South Andaman District. The nominations were made in accordance with the guidelines laid out for the constitution of DISHA Committees across India.
The DISHA Committee, chaired by the Member of Parliament, plays a pivotal role in monitoring the implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) within the district. It functions as a collaborative platform involving district administration officials, elected representatives from the Zilla Parishad, Municipal Council, Panchayat Samitis, and nominated members. The committee convenes once every quarter to review progress, identify bottlenecks, and ensure effective delivery of development programs.
The newly nominated members bring diverse expertise and community representation, aimed at strengthening the committee’s oversight capabilities. Their inclusion is expected to enhance transparency, accountability, and responsiveness in the execution of welfare schemes and infrastructure projects.
Mr. Ray emphasized the importance of grassroots participation in governance and reiterated his commitment to ensuring that government schemes reach the intended beneficiaries efficiently. He also highlighted the role of DISHA in bridging the gap between policy and implementation, especially in geographically sensitive regions like the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The nominations come at a time when the central government is focusing on streamlining development efforts in remote and coastal districts, with special attention to infrastructure, health, education, and livelihood programs. The South Andaman DISHA Committee is expected to play a critical role in aligning local priorities with national objectives.
The first quarterly meeting of the newly constituted committee is scheduled to take place in November 2025, where members will review the status of ongoing schemes and propose actionable recommendations for improvement.
