Member of Parliament Bishnu Pada Ray has raised concerns over fuel supply shortages affecting the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. During a meeting with senior officials of the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), he highlighted the difficulties faced by residents and businesses due to irregular fuel availability and urged immediate corrective measures.
Ray pointed out that frequent interruptions in supply have caused hardship for commuters, transport operators, and essential services. Rising costs in transportation and logistics are affecting local trade and tourism, while citizens have reported long queues at petrol stations and uncertainty over availability.
He pressed IOC officials to ensure steady and timely shipments of fuel, establish a buffer stock mechanism to prevent future shortages, and improve coordination between central authorities and local distributors.
IOC representatives acknowledged the concerns and assured the MP that steps were being taken to address the issue. They explained that logistical challenges, including weather-related disruptions and transport delays, had contributed to irregular supply but promised to strengthen monitoring and delivery systems.
The intervention underscores the importance of uninterrupted fuel supply for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, where dependence on imports is high and local alternatives are limited. The issue highlights the need for long-term infrastructure planning and resilient supply mechanisms to safeguard the region’s economic and social stability.
