Port Blair, September 22, 2024 — In a sharp critique of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration, Member of Parliament Bishnu Pada Ray has accused Lieutenant Governor Devendra Kumar Joshi of obstructing developmental progress across key sectors, with a particular focus on education. Addressing a press conference in Port Blair, the BJP MP demanded the LG’s immediate removal, citing administrative inaction and its adverse impact on public welfare.
Ray alleged that the education sector has suffered due to delayed infrastructure projects and lack of administrative responsiveness. He claimed that similar stagnation is evident in healthcare, road development, and agriculture. Farmers, he said, are unable to access diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizer essential for pre-sowing preparations, due to bureaucratic delays.
“The LG should be removed immediately,” Ray stated, adding that he would raise the issue in Parliament to seek urgent intervention. He also criticized the administration for halting land conversion and registration processes, which he said has disrupted tourism and local livelihoods. The matter is currently pending before the Supreme Court.
The Lieutenant Governor’s office has not responded to the allegations at the time of reporting.
