Maruti Suzuki’s Made-In-India Battery Pack For Grand Vitara

Maruti Suzuki has officially inaugurated its new manufacturing facility in Hansalpur, Gujarat, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi presiding over the event. Also present were Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Japan’s Ambassador to India, Keiichi Ono. Alongside the car plant, India’s first production facility for hybrid battery electrodes was also launched. This Hansalpur facility will serve as the main production hub for the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, which made its global debut in Europe last year and was later showcased at the Bharat Mobility Show 2025. Built on the 40PL EV platform developed in partnership with Toyota, the e-Vitara will also have a Toyota counterpart, the Urban Cruiser EV.

Additionally, the new facility will locally manufacture batteries for the Grand Vitara Hybrid. The TDS Li-Ion Battery Gujarat (TDSG) plant, a joint venture between Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki, was also inaugurated. The battery system used in Maruti’s strong hybrids consists of a 48-cell stack, weighs 18 kg per module, has a capacity of 0.6 kWh, and uses aluminium die-cast materials for improved strength and heat management.
