Lt. Governor of A&N Islands joins grand opening of Khelo India Beach Games 2025 in Diu

Admiral D. K. Joshi (Retd.), Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Vice-Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, participated in the grand opening ceremony of the Khelo India Beach Games 2025 at Ghoghla Beach, Diu, on Monday.

The event was formally inaugurated by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, marking the first-ever edition of the beach games under the Khelo India banner. The championship has attracted over 1,350 athletes from more than 30 States and Union Territories, emphasizing the growing significance of beach sports in India.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Mr. Kuniyil Kailashnathan, Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, and Mr. Praful K. Patel, Administrator of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, and Lakshadweep, among other key officials.

In his address, Lt. Governor Joshi commended the Daman and Diu Administration for its dedicated efforts in advancing the region’s sports infrastructure and tourism development. He also extended words of encouragement to the participating athletes, especially the contingent representing Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Referencing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks in the 109th edition of Mann Ki Baat, Lt. Governor Joshi highlighted the significance of participation from non-coastal states, calling it a testament to determination and adaptability in sports. Set against the backdrop of the Blue Flag-certified Ghoghla Beach, the Khelo India Beach Games 2025 aim to further India’s mission of promoting fitness and sporting excellence through the development of coastal sports disciplines.
