Level 1 IPL Code of Conduct offense admitted by Virat Kohli, who was fined heavily by the BCCI for his outburst at the umpire
In Sunday’s IPL 2024 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and previous champions Kolkata Knight Riders, Virat Kohli showed his annoyance over his questionable dismissal that ended his time at the wicket. After the RCB opener was dismissed to what appeared to be a waist-high full toss, the former captain of India reacted violently. In the exciting match, Kohli gave up a top edge to the bowler in the third over after being outwitted by Harshit Rana of Knight Riders. The current Orange Cap wearer, Kohli, was removed for 18 off 7 balls despite his decision to seek a review. The third umpire’s decision ultimately went against the RCB.
Enraged with the match referees after his contentious dismissal against KKR, Kohli spat out loud when RCB’s first wicket in their vain attempt to chase down a century-plus target created a major controversy. Kohli was fined 50% of his match money for breaking the code of conduct during Bengaluru and Kolkata’s Indian Premier League match, which took place the day after the thrilling final-ball encounter at Eden Garden. For violating the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 36 of the TATA Indian Premier League 2024 vs Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on April 21, 2024, Mr. Virat Kohli, Batter, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has been fined 50% of his match costs, the Indian Premier League said in a statement.
IPL officials said that Kohli violated Article 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct, making it a Level 1 offense. The former captain of the Royal Challengers of Bengal acknowledged the transgression and accepted the match referee’s decision to suspend him. The announcement also said that the Match Referee’s ruling is final and enforceable for Level 1 violations of the Code of Conduct. The TV umpire, using Hawk-Eye technology to examine the ball trajectory in relation to Kohli’s stance, discovered that had Harshit stayed inside the popping crease, his slow full-toss would have passed below the batter’s waist. So the third umpire gave Kohli a free pass.
“At that point, both Virat and I believed that the ball might have been higher than his waist,” RCB captain Faf du Plessis stated following the game. The captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Du Plessis, was fined earlier, according to the IPL media advice, since his team’s over-rate versus KKR was slow.
